SEARCULAR presents at MARLICE 2026

Last week, the SEARCULAR team met in Tenerife to attend MARLICE 2026, an international forum on marine litter and circular economy. The event brought together stakeholders from across the sector, and featured a packed programme of presentations, workshops and opportunities to share current work and future aspirations.

SEARCULAR leads held a panel session on the project’s solutions, discussing how the design of circular fishing gears can reduce marine litter produced by fisheries. Some of the key themes from the discussion included the need to shift our focus from mitigation to prevention, stopping marine litter and microplastics at source as well as the importance of co-creation of solutions in close collaboration with stakeholders, including the fishing industry, gear manufacturers and waste managers is vital to accelerate uptake of new technologies.
The biggest take-away? Time is of the essence, we need to act now! As the project enters its final few months, this was a great opportunity to share just some of the solutions SEARCULAR has been working on and testing under real conditions to reduce marine litter at source, such as our biodegradable seine ropes.
